Stefano Salon, degree in Physics in 1998, PhD in Applied Geophysics and Hydraulics in 2004, is presently researcher at OGS (staff from 2010). His activity has included: reanalyses and climate studies on Mediterranean Sea; operational oceanography for short-term forecasts of Mediterranean Sea biogeochemistry; large-eddy simulations of turbulent flows in oscillating boundary layers affected by rotation, as prototypes of tidally-driven basins; dynamical downscaling of lagoon ecosystems based on IPCC scenarios; Grid integration of instrumentation and numerical models for operational oceanography. After having participated to the EC-FP7 MyOcean series projects, since 2015 he is the Technical Responsible of the Mediterranean Sea Monitoring and Forecasting Centre (Med-MFC) of the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). Since 2016 he is the OGS responsible of the project “MASSIMILI - Development of a biogeochemical multi-data assimilation scheme to integrate Bio-Argo data with ocean colour data into CMEMS-MFCs” (CMEMS Service Evolution). He is OGS reference of the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research grant for the national contribution to PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and coordinates the training programme “HPC Training and Research in Earth Sciences”, jointly promoted by OGS and CINECA. As member of the Academic Board of the School of Doctorate in Earth Sciences and Fluid Mechanics at the University of Trieste, since 2008 he is responsible of the course of Introduction to Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, which is also part of the Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Earth System Physics of The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP).
