Diego Micheli

Mechanical Engineering and Fluid Machines

Prof. Diego Micheli graduated in mechanical engineering at University of Trieste in1980. After having served as a technical officer of the Italian army and having worked at the administrative department of Assicurazioni Generali, he came on duty at the University of Trieste as a researcher in 1983. In 1988 the Italian Ministry of Education has conferred on him the PhD in “Energetica – macchine e propulsione” (“Energetics – machinery and propulsion”).
In 1992 he had become associate professor of Macchine Marine (Naval Engines) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Trieste. In 2002 he has been called by the same Faculty in the role of full professor of Macchine (Theory of Fluid Machinery). From 2004 to 2010 he was Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which has become in the meantime and for his initiative, Department of Naval and Mechanical Engineering. Since 2010 he is the coordinator of the PhD courses proposed by the Department of Engineering and Architecture, where he currently pertains.
The research work of prof. Micheli has been directed towards the study of internal combustion engines and innovative power plants and towards the theoretical and experimental analysis of turbomachinery, particularly of the radial type. More recently, his research has broadened the field of distributed generation from renewable and non-renewable sources. He is the author of about one hundred scientific papers, and about two thirds of them had been presented at international Congresses or published on international technical journals.
The research activities were funded by the Italian National Research Council, the Italian Ministries of Education and of Industry, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region and also by private firms within European projects.
